FREQUENCIES
What’s the frequency of our city? What’s your daily rhythm? Are we all on the same wavelength, living in sync in the neighborhoods we call home?
FREQUENCIES is a crowdsourced video mural featuring the sounds and sights of a community, sourced directly from the people who call it home. Filtered through and remixed by Allison Tanenhaus (glitch artist) and Maria Finkelmeier (sound artist), the result becomes a joyful, celebratory experience lifting up the everyday beauty of our surroundings

FREQUENCIES: Allston-Brighton, MA
November 2021 - February 2022
New England’s long winter nights were made a bit brighter by the premiere of the work, commissioned by and shown at the Harvard Ed Portal with support from a Transformative Public Art Grant from the City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture. This iteration celebrated the vibrant Allston-Brighton neighborhood of Boston through a collection of eight, four-minute videos beamed into street-facing gallery windows, reverberating off of the sidewalk. Source material was submitted by a daycare center, retirement home, high school class, art lovers, and curious community members. More information and the full list of contributors is on our BLOG.
Thanks to CODAworx Magazine for featuring FREQUENCIES: Allston-Brighton in their 2023 “Rich Collaborations” issue!
FREQUENCIES: Wichita, KS
June 2024
We were thrilled to be invited to create FREQUENCIES with and for the Wichita, Kansas community! Commissioned by and created or the Elsewhere Fest, we projected our remixed video on a building central to the festival’s foot traffic, as attendees explored a number of concert and art venues throughout the district.
We worked in partnership with producers and art presenters from Harvester Arts to source the community submissions. Crowdsourced clips: Araceli Amador, ARTISTSAPLUSB, Kristin Beal, Kylie Brown, Jordan, Julian Kincaid, Lisa Mayfield.
