#improvaday

An ongoing and constantly shifting project, #improvaday is the result of a fascination with the sounds of everyday objects as the source material for spontaneous and unexpected musical improvisations.

What started as an Instagram page in 2015 has become a launching point for other MF Dynamics performances, projects, and sound installations for years to come.

improvaday Live

improvaday LIVE merges remixed videos from @improvaday with live improvisation. "30 Maracas" features a piñata, coffee cups, a sauce pan, and live marimba, whiskey bottles, toy bells, and more. Presented at the i = u Festival at Open Senses UK in London, the University of Oslo, and Yamaha’s Music for All Summer program.

IronSounds

The “IronSounds” sound installation used historic and real-time acoustics available at the Charlestown Navy Yard - home of the iconic ship, Old IronSides. Sounds were produced by striking structures, ringing ship's bells, and recording ambient sounds of voices, airplanes, construction, and wildlife. Part of the installation includes music created and recorded by Finkelmeier and 7 musicians in the Navy Yard's Dry Dock 1 in April, 2018.

This installations is part of the National Park Service's "Art on the Trails to Freedom", a collaborative project that invites artists from New England to create public works of art that explore Boston's historical themes and activate select locations on Boston's Freedom Trail and Black Heritage Trail with new theme-based public programming and temporary public are installations.

Hosted and supported by the USS Constitution Museum.
