How to Wake a Monster in 6 Easy Steps

1. DISCOVER A DORMANT BEAST

Lucky for us, Boston is home to the most famous there is: the Green Monster at Fenway Park.

2. JOIN A KILLER TEAM

A charismatic co-producer, dedicated festival founder, imaginative program director, handsome technical lead, wizard-like sound engineer, genius projection artist, along with some of Boston's best percussive, dance, media, and management talent. [Monster Ensemble: Ed Emerson, Joe Galeota, Yuriana Dow, Jonathan Hess, Reyna Herrera, Laura Jordan, Aaron Trant. Monster Acts: Shaw Pong Liu, [BABA], BLK BX, and Too Many Trombones. Choreographer: Yo-el Cassell. Costumes: Jay Calderin. Projection: SAMO. Stage Manager: Eleanor Regan]

3. CLIMB INTO THE BELLY

Don't be afraid, she won't bite - in fact she'll make a lot of sounds and welcome your presence!

4. SPEAK HER LANGUAGE

The monster is a complex being, discover what she has to say and relay it to a group of A+ composers that can make sense of it all. Check out the notation system and field recordings here [Waking the Monster composers: Kirsten Volness, Nate Tucker, Beau Kenyon, Shaun Cayabyab, Maria Finkelmeier, and Ryan Edwards]

5. TEST YOUR METHOD

Introduce the monster to the lights, computers, artistic minds, Roland gear, Vic Firth sticks and mallets, performers, choreographer, costume designer...and she'll embrace it all!

6. SHOW THE WORLD

ILLUMINUS and HUBweek Boston bring you "Waking the Monster" on October 3 & 4 from 6:30pm - midnight. It's a FREE festival featuring 30 projects by Boston's "brightest" artists. More info at illuminusboston.org or join the Facebook event
