Nordlig Vinter is a suite of compositions for percussion duo and iOS devices inspired by the arctic environment near Piteå, Sweden. Harshly cut field recordings recreate the dry, icy environment while minimal jazz inspired melodies on vibraphone and marimba evoke the quiet beauty of this unique place. Charles Martin (Canberra, Australia) and Maria Finkelmeier (Boston, Massachusetts) will take you on a journey to the arctic north through their performance and recounting of their years spent living in Northern Sweden. Held at the Scandinavian Cultural Center's Nordic Hall in Newton, MA on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 7pm.
